I found, through routine bloodwork, that I have very elevated liver function tests. Bilirubin, AST and ALT are all very high. Currently, I am waiting for an appointment with a liver specialist on Dec. 13. In the meantime, I am very worried that I can t get the levels down. From Nov. 10 to Nov 22, the bilirubin climbed from 3.2 to 5.9. I was also looking jaundiced. AST went from 79 to 265 and ALT from105 to 407. Alkaline Phosphate is also high. On Nov it was 211. On Nov. 22 it was 214. After 2 weeks of drinking lemon juice and apple cider and eating apples plus drinking more water, there has been a very slight lowering. My bilirubin on Dec. 1 is down to 5.2, but my primary doctor said it is still dangerously high. I do not want to go back to the GI doc in our neighborhood. I have had an ultrasound and an MRI/MRCP. The MRCP shows two large gallstones, but they are not blocking the bile duct. Is spite of this, the GI doc wants to to an ERCP and I refuse to have that done except by an expert in the field. Also, I don t think he can see anything with the scope that the MRCP didn t see. Are there any other foods I can eat to lower the levels further while I wait to see the specialist? I can t exercise as I have too little energy. I have constant nausea and itching and am tired all day.
