What Causes A Swooshing Sound When Blinking The Eyes?

When I blink, sometimes, I hear a swooshing sound and I become dizzy. I have also noticed that, at times, my blood pressure and pulse drop at the same time I hear this swooshing sound. I go see a cardiologist next week. However, this does NOT sound like a heart beat to me. I am a 39 year old female, approximately 64 inches and weigh 211.0 pounds. I have a pretty significant health history with having Fibromyalgia has my primary dx. Other diganosis include Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Syncope, GERD, Barretts esophagus, asthma, and osteoarthritis. I had LapBand Surgery a year ago and have lost over 90 pounds. Any ideas?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The whoshing sound could be related to low blood flow to the brain, considering its association with low blood pressure and low pulse. For this reason, I would recommend performing a Doppler ultrasound of the carotid arteries in order to examine the blood flow in them.

Other tests to consider would be a resting ECG, thyroid hormone levels and a cardiac ultrasound. You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
