What Can Be Cause For Cough, Fever And Throat Pain In Child?
Hello Doctor, my daughter of age 5 yrs (18Kg) has started coughing and complaining of throat pain on Sunday night. Today she developed high fever of around 102 degrees. I gave her Crocin DS (5 ml) and sponged her but the temperature hasn't come down. I have 2 questions
1) Is it OK to give her Meftal-P (she was given Crocin DS 2 hrs back) if her temperature is 102 degrees
2) I'm suspecting that she has some throat infection. Apart from high fever and throat pain she doesn't have any other symptoms. In case this is a bacterial infection, will the throat infection clear away without using antibiotics - is it worth waiting for the infection to be cured naturally instead of feeding her antibiotics.
I'll go to the doctor first thing in the morning. But your comments will help me pursue the right treatment and ask my doctor the right questions.

1. Meftal-P is an NSAID and contains Mefenamic acid, which is not recommended in children. It may cause drug induced gastritis and also renal problems on the long run. Please stop Meftal-P and never use it hereafter in children.
2. It could be a viral or bacterial infection. I suggest you get a rapid antigen card test for streptococcus done and then only consider antibiotics. No need to use antibiotics unnecessarily. 95% of the time respiratory infections in children are viral.
