What Are The Things To Be Checked To Have A Thorough Thyroid Checkup?

Hello. Since November, I started menopause. Lots and lots of hot flashes . . .started HRT for the last month and a half or so. My skin is way drier than it ever used to be, and I have experienced an unusual gain in weight lately. I have low motivation, low everything, low drive for life. I am not thriving. I do want to sleep more. For the first time since November I have had a period; it has lasted for 19 days now with lots of clotting and constant moderate to heavy flow. I am taking iron supplements. My last TSH result was 1.27 about a year ago, but I do not think they have ever done a really full panel on me to see exactly what is going on. If I needed a full thyroid panel to be thorough, what would I need to ask for?

hi.

for thorough thyroid check-up, you need to consult with your physician (preferably an endocrinologist). thyroid function testing includes TSH, T3 and T4 levels. this would suffice as initial diagnostic modality. if further evaluation needed, you could request for a thyroid ultrasound if you wanted to make sure there are no lesions on your thyroid gland.

hope this helps.

good day!
