What Are The Side Effects Of Using Emergency Contraceptive Pills?

Hi, I am currently on the contraceptive pill cilest, i have only recently started taking it. I am now expecting my period as i am in my 7 day break of not taking the pills. This morning i was experiencing terrible pain and burning of a uti infection, i am prone to these and very used to them. However, there appears to be a light coloured, small amount of blood in my urine. My periods are usually heavy so i am confused if this blood is due to a serious infection or it is my period trying to come. I am a 16 year old female and am very worried, please help! Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

This seems to be a case of urinary tract infection (and unrelated to contraceptives) since you had burning sensation and pain. It can cause blood in urine because bacteria causes inflammation of your urinary tract cells. You need to drink plenty of fluids and get your urine sensitivity and culture done for a proper UTI diagnosis so can start the prescribed medications.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
