What Are The Side Effects Of Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate?
hi Dr, My son is suffering with fever and we consulted a local doctor who suggested drops containing "betamethasone sodium phosphate" considering he has allergy, can we use this drug? does this cause any severe side effects? my son is 11 months old now. Please suggest.

Age of your son is just 11 months and he is having fever & allergy ( according to your doctor).
Prescribed BETAMETHASONE drops .
As far as about side effects of betamethasone , please note down:
Sodium & fluid retention, K & Ca depletion, muscle wasting , weakness, increased appetite , SUPPRESSION of pituitary-adrenocortical axis and many many more side effects . No doubt it is very potent drug BUT ONLY FOR emergency cases.
In my opinion in ordinary cases for fever or allergy , this is not a substitute i.e. use it only in emergency case.
When such case visit I prescribe monteleukast+ levocetirizine syrup .
If wheezing present take terbutalin+dextromethiphan syrup .
Levofloxacin 10 mg kg/ day is preferred antibiotic in such cases.
