Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Genital warts, is an infection caused by
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). It is an
STD.
Since you were told that you had HPV which had caused pre-cancerous cells in you, that itself suggests that you were infected with the causative virus of warts, even though you did'nt had any visible ones.
Certain HPV types e.g type 16 and 18 can cause cervical cancers in those infected. Since you had precancerous changes, therefore it is likely that you were infected with one of these(type 16 Or type 18).
It is very likely that you gave it to your sexual partner as you were involved in unprotected sex.
Even if one does not have visible warts but carries the infection, can still transmit the infection to his/her sexual partner.
While there is no treatment for
HPV infection as such, though most of the time body itself takes cares of the infection.
However, in females a
Pap smear test can be performed which can detect viral DNA and is useful to know whether the infection still persists or is it cured.
Visible warts present no doubt whatsoever in diagnosis and can be easily treated with various destructive modalities like
Cryotherapy,
Laser,
Podophyllotoxin application etc.
The doctor after examining your sexual partner must have discovered them to be very few in number, that most likely explains his reaction.
