Various risk factors which are considered to be the reasons for
colon cancer are
1)Are older than 60
2)Are African American and eastern European descent
3)Eat a diet high in red or processed meat and also high-fat, low-fiber diet
4)Have cancer elsewhere in the body
5)Have colorectal polyps
6)Have
inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease or
ulcerative colitis)
7)Have a family history of colon cancer
8)Smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol.
Various modalities of treatment options are
1)Surgery
2)Chemotherapy
3)
Radiation.
Prevention:
Over the past few years death rate due to colon cancer has reduced..this is because of increased awareness.
1) Almost all men and women age 50 and older should have a colon
cancer screening. Patients at risk or with family history of colon cancer may need screening earlier.
2)Diet high in fiber and low in fat should be consumed.
3)Smoking and drinking alcohol should be reduced.
