Hi,

If your son is not improving for more than 1 week, then, you need to talk to his doctor to start intravenous therapy for re-hydration. Actually, I strongly recommend to start that therapy now.

Go to ER or to see his doctor and get your son hospitalized for some days as soon as possible.

Hope it helped!

Hello,

Thanks for posting,

First you will need to start rehydrating the child immediately with oral rehydration salt and if the degree of dehdyration is severe (which seems to be the case), then it will be IV fluid infusion that is recommended at this point. He would need IV antipyretic to control the fever. Your doctor will need to do a more extensive laboratory testing to find out the cause of the diarrhea. In children, most of the time it is gastroenteritis due to some bacteria, fungal, viral infection etc. Ones the source of the diarrhea is identified, treatment will go smoothly within the next 48 hours.
All medications should be given IV until vomiting is off and child is able to take anything orally.
You might need a pediatrician to intervene at this point.

Hope this helps
