Treatment For Tremors After Taking Ambien To Aid Sleep?

84 year old father, has been taking 1/2 Ambien each night to aide sleeping, for about the last two weeks. Last night he did not take a dose and slept reasonably well. This afternoon and into the evening, he is experiencing muscular tremors throughout his body as if he is shivering from being cold. He is not cold and the tremors are annoying but not uncomfortable. Is that a possible side effect? To complicate a diagnosis, he is severely arthritic, mostly non ambulatory except for moving himself from chair to wheel chair to bed to chair etc- with assistance. Also is on dialysis 3x week for full kidney failure. Any thoughts?

Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
Ambien (Zolpidem) is a sleeping aid and it was stated that zapolidem doesnt have a withdrawal symptoms. But later it was found that even zolpidem has withdrawal symptoms. Your fathers tremors could be due tothe withdrawal effects of zolpidem and if so they will disappear with some time may be 2-4 days.
Further as you have stated that your father is on dialysis it would be wise to get serum electrolytes done as dyselectrolytemia may also lead to this kind of tremors. If so then the electrolyte levels will have to be corrected.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
