Thick Lining Of Mucus At The Back Of Throat After Tonsils Removed

Hello, My son just recently had his tonsils removed (this past Friday) and now has a thick lining of mucus in the back of his throat. I have read that this is normal but just want to know if there is anything he can drink to help thin it out? Thank you for your help.
