What Could Cause Tonsillitis?

My daughter(15) was diagnosed with tonsilitis, pharyngitis and laryngitis on jan 5th 2011..Antibiotics (Penicillin) appeared to help but a few days after stopping them, throat very painful again. 2nd course of antibiotics did the same, but she never felt 100% and sore throat came back. Been back at doctors and her tonsils are huge and both glands in her neck are very swollen and very painful to touch. Temperature goes up 38 and down again on and off. Doc convinced it was glandular fever so took blood tests and also did throat swab. Results all satisfactory. Took her back today and doc is still convinced its glandular fever. Help please

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I would suggest culture and sensitivity test. Also, to exclude or find staphylococcus test followed by a specific antibiotic for a sufficiently longtime to cure her. Please consult a ENT specialist with results. She may also need tonsillectomy.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
