Teen, High Triglyceride Count, Was On A Weight Loss Diet. Is It Due To This?
My daughter is 14 and did blood work her triglyceride are 263 her doctor said twice as high she was eatting poorly because she s been trying to lose weight. She was eatting breakfast & lunch & salad for dinner then went to salad for lunch & dinner then got tired of salads and started with protein bars, she was starting to eat better but not long enough. Do you think her triglyceride were high because of this? The doctor said in 3-4 months he ll recheck her. Please give me your advice. Thank you so much Tina
Though the triglyceride levels are high but they are not due to the diet that you are mentioning. There can be a number of causes for such a high level and it is advisable to get it rechecked. In the interim ensure that your daughter has a healthy well balanced nutritious diet.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
High blood triglycerides is due to familial hyperlipidemias, obesity and unhygeinic food habits.
The treatment is
1. Dietary restrictionvof fats, sugars and carbohydrates
2. Physical exercises
Your child requires dietary restriction and intake of healthy and balanced diet, physical exercises only and sould be continued for 6 months and after 6 months test is being repeated to know the level.
In spite of 6 months dietary restriction and increased physical exercises, if the triglyceride is above 1,000mg/L needs treatment with medication like HMG CoA reductase inhibitors like statins.
Hope I have answered your query.
