Tampon Stuck Due To Septate Hymen. Should I Get It Surgically Removed?
Hello, so I started my period yesterday and put in a tampon. I went to change it and I couldn't pull the tampon out it was stuck and was very painful. I went in looked on my mirror to see what was wrong when I relized that I had this thick band like skin around my tampon. I then did a bit of research not only to find out I have something called a septate hymen. I very worried I have never been sexually active but I was wondering if I could have it break during sex or would I need to get it surgically removed?? Thanks :)
Hello and welcome to HCM, I am Dr Nilajkumar a consultant gynecologist and I will be helping you in your queries. The most important thing now is to get the tampon removed. Otherwise it will get infected and cause problems. I suggest that you visit a gynecologist and let her decide about the best way to remove it. It may require a small incision on the hymen under light anesthesia. You may also need investigations for other problems like septum in vagina and above.
The spetum may or may not break during sex and this is difficult to comment upon by just history alone But the tampon cannot be allowed to stay inside and you will not be able to have sex with the tampon inside.
So please visit your gynecologist and get examined. The septate hymen is not a big issue and can be easily corrected. Thanks for using HCM. I am always here to answer any further questions.
Have a good day.
