Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

If your husband is able to walk and able to move the joints of the foot actively then there is unlikely possibility of a fracture.

It could be only a soft tissue injury which generally subsides over a period of time spontaneously without any issues.

Follow these guidelines -

* Protection to the area in the form of brace and avoid bearing weight on leg
* ice packing to alleviate the pain
* elastic compression bandage to reduce the swelling
* Keep your foot end in elevation
* use analgesic antiinflammatory medicines as necessary

Anyway an Xray is necessary to ruleout a fracture. Consult an orthosurgeon.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
If your husband is able to bear the weight on your limb without much pain then a bone injury is unlikely. He need to continue with rest and ice . Most of the times it is a soft tissue injury but it takes at least 3-4 days for the pain to subside.
Hope this will helps you. Feel free to ask me if you have any further queries.
Wish you good health. Take care.
Regards.
