Hello,
Welcome to Health Care Magic. I read carefully your query and I understand your concern.
I see your problem description, you have a high value for SGPT that is a liver function blood test, and you also said that you take medicine to reduce cholesterol. This medication can cause the high value of SGPT (ALT) for this reason during the intake of them is recommendable to do every three month lipid profile blood test and liver function blood test: SGPT and SGOT, the increase of this indicate a damage of liver. The monitor of this lab test it is used to see the effect of medicine and change the dosage of it or choose another way ( e.g. healthy diet and exercise) to decrease the blood lipids or stop them for the time that there is elevate liver enzyme function blood test.
The elevate SGPT during the intake of this drugs indicate that you should lower the dose or stop them ,but if you had this results for several time before used the medication it said that you maybe have a fatty liver, an abdominal ultrasound determine that. Fatty liver is usually linked in with overweight and it is associated with elevated lipid profile test and functional liver blood test.
For break down the SGPT you can take nutritional supplement that are indicate for liver disease e.g. Nusam (S-adenosyl methionine knowing also as SAM) or NAC (acetylcistein) or Essential L (essential phospholipids).
For your elevate lipid profiles to avoid the cholesterol medication you should have a healthy diet with low fat saturated foods, you should use vegetables ,fruits , white meat and fish, avoid alcohol that increase triglycerides and the liver enzyme lab test too.
You should do at least 30 minutes of walk every day and should maintain a healthy weight for your height.
I recommend you to monitor the lipid blood test to evaluate when to use medication and when to stop and when you use this medication you should monitor SGPT and SGOT, and keep in touch with your doctor.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Kind regard,
Dr .Marsida JANKO
