Suggest Treatment For Throat Infection

Hi Dr Keerthi.

I've had a high fever for 7-8 days now, it's accompanied by an achy body and regular sweats. It started last Sunday with a pain and severe headache behind my right eye and has kind of developed in to this constant fever! I have no other symptoms, just tiredness/irritable but no cold or flu symptoms at all.

Factors which may have contributed (I'm not sure but thought I'd give all the facts):

- I recently moved from London to Dubai (2 months ago)
- when I first arrived I got a throat infection and took a course of antibiotics
- the weekend before I woke up with the headache and pain behind my right eye, I had spent a lot of time in the sun (it's about 42 degrees here)

I'm not sure if any of this is linked but this fever's not getting any better. I'm drinking lots of fluids and taking panadol which helps slightly but I feel it's masking the pain and fever rather than curing it.

I've also been to the doctor who said it might be a viral fever but how long can this last?

Can you help?

Thanks,

Cherry

Hi thanks for contacting HCM...

It could be viral or bacterial infection..

Investigate with .....
1.CBC ( if lymphocytosis viral and if neutrophilia bacterial cause might there )...
2.Throat swab and send for culture
Also sent for influenza testing
3.CRP
4.ASO titer

If streptococci like organism isolated than suitable antibiotic given for that like amoxyclav or cefixime .....for five days ...

Avoid excess spicy foods and fried foods ...

If influenza infection there oseltamivir like drug useful for that .....

Steam inhalation done two times daily ...

Salt water gargles done ...

Smoking exposure avoided ....

If still no improvement than auscultation done and chest x ray done for further work up..

Hope your concern solved. ...

Take care .

Advise ; physician consultation for further examination
