Hi, i have a query about my sore/dry throat problem. I am healthy, 41 year old male, non smoker and drinker, 6ft and 82 kg, so not overweight. About 4 or 5 weeks ago i noticd that i would lose my voice when speaking. There was no cold present although when i breathe out i get a slight burning sensation in my nostrils. There is no pain on swallowing and no swollen glands. My mouth feels very dry, both nostrils are clear. When i take a deep breath i can feel the air at the back of my throat. General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Soreness and dryness of throat particularly at the back part, nasal burning sensation and feeling like losing voice while speaking indicates inflammatory changes in upper respiratory tract.

I would advise you the following in such a situation: Take an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen if it suits you, antihistamine like Cetirizine. Consult your PCP for preliminary examination. investigations as needed and get started with the additional medicines as would be advised by your Doctor. You may be started on antibiotic and oral steroids, nasal decongestant drops as needed. Have povidone iodine gargles. Drink plenty of warm fluids and take plain water steam inhalation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
