Suggest Treatment For Recurring UTI

Hi Doc, I am 25 year old male and I contracted UTI about a week ago. My doctor prescribed me with Amoxicilin antibiotics (5-day course) and Ural to cleanse my urinary tract. I suspect that the infection had occurred along my urethra as I only felt pain when passing urine, had yellow discharge from my penis and no fever at all, and the urine test showed that there was an unusually high amount of white blood cells in my urine so it was an infection although it was not determined what bacteria was causing it (I had a full blown UTI years ago caused by E.Coli and at that time, I had high fever, chills and night terrors, so this time around it wasn't as bad as the previous one).

As soon as I took the antibiotics, the symptoms begin to disappear and I thought that was the end of it. For a week, everything was fine and no symptoms manifested at all. However, today I felt a strong sensation to urinate in the morning (which woke me up from my sleep) and i felt a numb pain in my groin after urinating plus there was a small trace of blood in the urine. I went back to sleep and later in the morning, the sensation is still there but much lesser and there are some yellow discharge coming out of my penis. Strangely I don't feel any pain during urination at all, my urine is clear as it should be and no unusual smell was detected, although there is some tingling sensation in my groin which is rather irritating.

I am worried that the infection is recurring and is it unusual to get the symptoms again after a week of meds? Or is it just residual effects of the infection and its a sign that its healing slowly? Note that I did not contract the UTI from a sexual intercourse and its most probably due to diarrhea that i got 3 weeks ago. Should I go see the same doctor or look a for a second opinion? Please help, thanks.

Hi there,
thank you for your query on healthcare magic.
From your symptoms, it is possible that you may still have the infection although it has cleared up quite a bit.I recommend that you drink plenty of water to clear up the remaining infection. Also urinate frequently and do not hold back urine.
If symptoms persist or worsen, you need to get a urine culture and sensitivity test done to isolate the causative organism ( if any) and check for the appropriate sensitive antibiotic.
One more possibility is that you have aquired a fungal infection due to the use of antibiotics but this is not as likely as the above mentioned possibility.
Hope this helps with your situation.
Thank you for visiting healthcare magic.
