Suggest Treatment For Rectal Bleeding

I have at least four benign osteomas on my skull, one about a half dollar size. Many polyps were also discovered during a routine colonoscopy, enough that it took two colonoscopies and a resection to remove the polyps. At least one was becoming cancerous. I have had cysts and rectal bleeding for years. I am currently 52. I have been referred to a neurologist and have been told to get a colonoscopy soon. I know that this is a rare disease, but other than the jaw thing and, as far as I know the family history, my background seems to fit this much closer than I would like. What do you know about this and what do you see here?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my surgical experience, the rectal bleeding seems from underlying polyp with inflammatory or cancerous changes or hemorrhoids from various reasons. Primary guidelines at present :

- Consume plenty of liquids
- High fiber diet to avoid hard stools
- Sitz bath
- Avoid stress, anxiety
- Quit smoking if doing
- Maintain blood sugar, body weight, cholesterol levels

I would like to follow up with the colonoscopy report for further assistance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
