Suggest Treatment For Numbness In Feet And Balance Problems

My mom has been suffering from diabetes since past 32 years. She underwent an operation for stenosis ten months back in Bombay hospital. The operation was successful as she doesn t experience the pain that she had suffered for almost 4-5 years. But she feels a lot of numbness in her feet which makes her lose her balance while walking. She almost struggles to walk without any support. Kindly help.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is a matter of pleasure that she had relief from pain. The numbness can be due to presence of mild swelling in nerves around the operative field. If after this ten month post operative period if she continue to have this numbness feeling then you should consult to your doctor as this can be due to mild compression or damage to sensory nerves. An MRI investigation can be ordered by your surgeon to check the problem.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
