Suggest Treatment For Irregular Periods

Hi, I got married 4 months back. My first two periods came normal after marriage, but 2 days late which I assumed normal. The third cycle was with scanty flow with no pains and lasted for 10 days. This month they are 11 days late. I had the same symptoms as pregnancy like nausea, a little back ache, drowsiness and quite a lot of gas. Also I felt like vomiting but I couldn't. The same cramps were there. I also went through two pregnancy tests on the 5th delayed day of menses. hCG and home pregnancy tests. Both showed up with negative results. After 11 days I got the menses. I am worried if there is something wrong with my cycles or my reproductive system? Please respond sooner.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Minor changes in the menstrual flow can occur at certain months. Any history of new drug intake, stress, long travel, diet alterations and vigorous exercise can cause alterations in the cycle. I would suggest you to wait and watch for the bleeding pattern in your next cycle.

Any excess bleeding or cramps may necessitate visiting your gynaecologist. You can get clinically examined and get a pelvic ultrasound to rule out any abnormalities. Thyroid levels, blood hemoglobin should also be checked.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
