Suggest Treatment For Headache After Sinus Infection

I wake up fine, but from noon to 8pm I have sever head pain/headaches in my frontal and ethmoidal sinuses. I had a sinus infection about 1 week ago, never got antibiotics thinking I could fix this, my nose is clear but the headaches are debilitating.

Hello,

You have history of having sinus problem. Presently, you have severe headache due to sinus infection. To get relief you are suggested to take steam inhalation twice daily. It will help to clear the nasal passage and help relieve headache naturally. Get X-ray PNS done to detect any nasal septum deviation that may be causing you symptoms. It may need correction by surgery. Take plenty of water. Take decongestants to reduce swelling, blockage and nasal congestion.

Use humidifier to stay comfortable as dry air triggers symptoms. Antibiotics are only prescribed if sinusitis is chronic, otherwise it is not required. If it is triggered by allergy, know the trigger factors and avoid it. You can take non sedating antihistamine for relief. Take pain relieving medicines like Acetaminophen or Combiflam to get rid of headache. Take adequate sleep, lack of good sleep triggers headache. Avoid smoking or addictions if any. You are advised to get clinically examined by an ENT, to rule out any nasal polyp or nasal growths.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
