Suggest Treatment For Eye Pain While Having Thinning Retina

My daughter is 20 years old. Approximately 8 years ago we found out she had lattice degeneration. Two days ago she was in the ER with stabbing pains in her eyes. They said her retina was thinning and she may need laser surgery for a tear. What can I do - she's in so much pain it's hard for her in school and does this mean eventually she'll lose her vision? She's only 20.
