Suggest Treatment For Anal Fissure

hello doctor i am suffering from anal fissure for past 2 months.. it pains like hell. it started due to constipation. n it pains during n after every bowel movement for full day. it bleeds around 6-7 drops. no blood inside the stool only on the surface. i took laxative / stool softner but it when i didnt take it 1 day it pained n bleed alot.. please help!! :-(

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're having. I see a lot of patients who have anal fissures, and the treatment is the one that you mentioned - stool softners. I'd also increase your fluid intake an make sure you get plenty of fiber. Anal fissures can take a long time to heal, and you have to continue to not strain when you have a bowel movement and definitely make sure your bowel movements are soft (the consistency should be like toothpaste). If your problems continue, I recommend seeing a general surgeon, as there is a surgical procedure known as a lateral internal sphincterotomy that can be done.
