Suggest Treatment For A Painful Lump On The Labia Majora

Hello. a lump has appeared on my labia majora, where it connect to the leg and just on one side. The lump is getting bigger and the whole on side of my labia majora is swollen and red, mostly red round the lump. The lump is hard and I can feel it beneath the skin travelling up although it doesn t protrude like the main lump. It hurts to walk no and hurts initially when I sit down, or even lie on my side! I noticed it 2 days ago after I had been sat on a plane for 10 hours and had a bath with new soap. it started swelling more, but over night it went down although the lump was still there and I was still a little swollen. I thought it might be irritation from wearing underwear so I stopped wearing them, kept it clean with lukewarm water and used antibacterial cream on it. But today I have walked a bit and now it is really hurting, the lump is bigger, the swelling is worse and really sore to the touch. I am really worried this is something serious, please can you help diagnose this? I am travelling in Canada for 2 weeks and was unable to get travel insurance, soI am unable to see a doctor. thank you for your help.

Hi there,
After going through your question, I am of the opinion that
1) You might be suffering from some labial abscess.
2) You need to take a course of antibiotics like amoxicillin+clavulanic acid, along with pain killers and anti inflammatory medicines.
3) Once there is pus, you might need to get it drained by a procedure called incision and drainage and might need to send pus for culture and sensitivity.
4) Do not worry. These infections, though very painful, can easily be treated.

I hope this was helpful.
Regards,
Dr. Shikha Shah
