Suggest Treatment For Phlebitis

Hi Doc, two weeks ago my husband (33 years old) had an IV inserted through his left hand vena on the wrist (below the thumb) for 8 days.
He was treated for typhoid and liver function disturbance.
Since he left hospital 2 weeks ago, the vein is bulging and somewhat movable when touched.
- Is it some kind of phlebitis / varicose / ... ?
- Does it need treatment ?
- What can I do to reduce its swelling ?
Please help. Thank you so much...

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi Wilsa, the vein you mention has got thrombosed due to IV injections. It must have become cord like. No need to worry, it will settle down in a few weeks. Nothing needs to be done. If there is redness or pain, you can apply Heparin or Thrombophob ointment and give him some pain medicines. You can also apply compression bandage over it for a week to ten days. But, if no redness then nothing need be done, he will be alright in a few weeks. Take care,
