Hello,

Low platelet count occurs due to low platelet production or increased destruction of platelets. An enlarged spleen leads to increased destruction of platelets in peripheral blood.

Thus, the cause of decreased platelets in your peripheral blood is enlarged spleen. In such a situation, surgical removal of the spleen helps improve platelet counts in your peripheral blood.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
