Suggest Remedy For Thick Toe Nails With Redness

My big toenail on the left foot started to get dark reddish areas on it during the summer and progessively the whole nail was covered where it grows out of the toe and seemed to become thicker and now it is starting to detach itself on the outer edge where it grows out of the toe. Could you give some info about this and what may be wrong or what I should do.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It appears to be a case of fungal infection. Avoid getting your toe nails wet. Apply anti-fungal ointment over the toenail. Visit a dermatologist as a confirm diagnosis is possible only after a thorough physical examination.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rohan Shanker Tiwari, Orthopedic Surgeon
