Suggest Remedies To Help Prevent Eardrum Rupture While Diving

Hi I have ruptured my eardrums several times over the years while flying. I have tried earplanes in my ears, sometimes working other times not. I do the usual drixine, sudafed chewy clearing my nose but nothing seems to work. My problem is we are planning a diving trip next year overseas, and would love to be confident that I will be able to take the flight and my eardrums will be fine. Some years back I had grommets placed in the ear to alleviate the problem, but that didn t work. Can you recommend anything else. Thanks Tracey

Nothing to worry. During changing of altitude your ear is susteptible to barotruma especially in the ear with eustatian tube dysfunction. During change of flight use chewing gum. And start following before the experience--- nasal decongestant, anti-histaminic(like cetrizine) , valsalva exercise , staem inhalation. If symtoms persist and not improved after surgery even grommet insertion , u may need tubuloplasty of eustation tube. It has variable success rate.
