Suggest Remedies For Chronic Tonsillitis And Severe Cough

Hello,
I am a 47 year old woman who, at a young age , suffered many tonsilitis
bouts. As an adult I still get tonsilitis but very few and far between. This time my tonsils have been sore for 2 weeks. This tonsilitis has been accompanied by 9 days of extreme coughing. The coughing has now diminished but my tonsils still hurt. What should I do?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

This looks like Tonsillitis vaused by bacterial or viral throat infection.
So first of all get a Throat swab culture test done.
This will help in ruling out the nature of infection.
Also get your tonsils checked for tonsil stone formation.
You can be advised a course of antibiotics like Augmentin or Azithromycin and anti inflammatory painkillers like Advil.
Suck Cepacol lozenges to soothe the pain.
Do warm saline gargles and antiseptic mouthwash gargles.
Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily.
Avoid spicy and irritant foods and take soft bland diet.
Sip on plenty of warm water and other warm fluids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
