Suggest Alternate Remedy For Infantile Spasms

my baby 6 months old has subvolemic brain may be due to post birth meningitis his EEG abnormal and getting infantile spasms of 2 sec duration around 20-30 each with 6-8 hrs duration. All his milestone normal till date with 9.3 kg weight and head circumference normal he is twin with exact same performance with other child----he got first spasm at 2 month old and started with phenobarbitone and no spasms for next 3-1/2 months last week started these spasms again and started with sodium valporoate 100 mg twice a day last week but not very effective what should we do...

Hi,

In case if seizures are not controlled a second drug should be added as done in your case.

Even after that if seizures are not controlled the dose of medication should increase. Further step if seizures are uncontrolled is to check the blood level of drugs.

If blood level is ok then the third drug should be given. I would request you to consult your pediatrician for opinion.
