Suffering From Tourettes. Severe Pain Due To Muscle Contraction. Is It Connected With Electric System Of Body? Suggestions?

My granddaughter has tourettes. She is a 17 year old senior, works part time. She is in a great deal of pain because her muscles contract so hard. She was hoping she would grow out of this by this time. You may not notice she has this when you are around her if you are not aware of it. Does this have something to do with the electric system in the body. They try to give her everything healthy they can. Any help you can offer would be wonderful. Thanks so much Pat

Hello

Tourette syndrome is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder with onset in childhood, characterized by multiple physical (motor) tics and at least one vocal (phonic) tic. These tics characteristically wax and wane, can be suppressed temporarily, and are preceded by a premonitory urge.

Regardless of symptom severity, individuals with Tourette's have a normal life span. Although the symptoms may be lifelong and chronic for some, the condition is not degenerative or life-threatening. Intelligence is normal in those with Tourette's, although there may be learning disabilities

Most cases of Tourette's are mild, and do not require pharmacological treatment instead, psychobehavioral therapy by psychiatrist, education, and reassurance may be sufficient.

The classes of medication with the most proven efficacy in treating tics/tourettes
typical and atypical neuroleptics including risperidone (Risperdal), ziprasidone , haloperidol (Haldol), pimozide (Orap) and fluphenazine (Prolixin)

I hope this explains your query

Take care

Hello Sir,
Your 17 yr old granddaughter is suffering from Tourettes. By this time you must have understood the problem she has. Similarly your granddaughter should also be in a position to interpret the condition she has. It is not the electric system, it is a Statistical Manual Disorder. It is originated from the brain. It may be motor or phonic.
It produces Spasmodic contraction of the muscles, most often in the face. Tics can be invisible to the observer, such as abdominal tensing or toe crunching. Eye blinking and throat clearing are the common motor and phonic tics. It may be sudden, rapid, stereotyped.
Treatment: admit her in a school where tic children are getting admitted, Discuss with teacher that the proper approach will make her thrive by creating proper atmosphere not only in school, but also in home.
The tics can be diminished, by counseling and medicines or behavior therapies such as habit reversal may be considered.
Maintain a correct record of incidents and the environment prior to symptoms and try to determine the trigger and avoid it.
On your part encouraging her on all aspects is very very important.
I wish her the best in her recovery
Best wishes for your granddaughter
