1. are you immunocompromised in any way because
a. People with suppressed immune systems are also more likely to have viral resistance to these drugs.
b. shingles tends to resolve fairly quickly in young adults, which means severe pain and AGE are the two factors which have to be looked upon by your family doctor for any drug prescription. [since PHN: post herpetic neuralgia is painful after effect of shingles]
2. Oral corticosteroids, including prednisolone or prednisone, are powerful anti-inflammatory medications which can be prescribed by your doctor for pain relief.

PS
. Your doctor may suggest medications to reduce inflammation, ease pain, and control your shingles infection, including
i. Painkillers, such as aspirin or acetaminophen.
ii. Anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen or naproxen.
iii. Antibiotics can check the infection if the area has been infected by bacteria.
iv. TCA [Tricyclic antidepressants] or seizure medication may be prescribed for the pain that lingers after lesions have healed. Antidepressants may also help with depression that can occur with the onset of shingles or as a result of the lingering pain. [sleep deprivation]

PS
.Side effects of corticosteroids can be severe, and you should take oral steroids at as low a dose, and for as short a time, as possible.
