for that your mother needs to have sputum for AFB tests for 2 occassions.

even if sputum for AFB negative radiology if suspected needs to start cat 2 anti-tubercular therapy
even radiology is normal, sputum mycobacterial culture and tb DNA PCR needs to be done.
precautions include 1. keep her in a well ventilated room, 2. use separate utensils for her, 3. keep the sputum in a separate container, 4. avoid overcrowding in her room, 5. follow the treatment schedule properly, 6. if any complication arises during treatment seek medical attention immediately
diet should be nutritious, rich in protein and calorie, avoidance of spicy food etc. usually there is no dietary restriction unless any complication arises or associated diabetes mellitus
after proper diagnosis treatment with proper anti-TB drugs will releive her cough
