Hello please mention for how many months you are having this problem. You haven't mentioned whether you are diabetic or having blood pressure or any renal problem or any heart problem all may this lead to swelling of the ankles and apart from that the medications that your taking doxazosin mesylate are given to reduce high blood pressure and for urinary retention. So, if you are having any of these problems you may experience the ankle swelling . If you do not have any of these problems it might physiological edema that might occur for long sitting and as you have mentioned your age 81 it might be common for the retention of fluids as lack of physical activity.
To reduce the swelling of ankle
1.keep your leg lifted upon a pillow
2.do front and back back ankle movement these may help in reduction of the swelling.
Hope you get well soon.
