Small Child, Head Injury, Massive Bump Behind Head. Medical Attention Required?
My 6 month old sone fell backwards from standing and has a massive bump on the back of the head went to emerg but after 3 hours of waiting and told it would be another good 3 hours i went home i also had 2 yr old twins so it was difficult to wait. He has been pretty good all night and has now gone to sleep if it was for the bump being so big i wouldnt worry. But just wondring what i need to look for. He fell around 6 pm and went to sleep at 11 pm.
Hi thanks for your question.
At the outset I presume that vitals(pulse ,blood pressure) of your son are normal.
He has met an accident 6 hours back and has swelling at the back of his head.
I hope he has not lost his consciousness and has not vomitted.
He has not developed any complication other than haematoma for last 6 hours, hope fully there will be internal bleeding, but he need urgent CTscan head to rule out bleeding inside his brain.
Get his urgent CT head done and consult a general surgeon for management of haematoma (swelling at back of head).
Hope this answers your question
Hi,
Being a very small baby, you definitely have to take him to ER!
Meanwhile look for vomiting, irritability and altered behaviour.
Hope you find a suitable time to take him to the doctor.
All the best.
