Should Tetanus Be Given During Second Trimester Of Pregnancy?

I had a very small cut on my leg which I got from a rusty supermarket shelf. I am 10 weeks pregnant. As I have not had a tetanus injection since I was a child, the gynae said I should have one. I had it today. I am concerned though as I read on the CDC site that is safe but should be given in the second trimester. I am very worried now! My gynae however, assured me that it is fine.

Hello dear, I really appreciate your concern. CDC recommends tetanus injection in second trimester but in your case it is more beneficial in first trimester as you have a cut on your leg. There is no harm in taking tetanus toxoid injection in first trimester. CDC has recommended it in second trimester for universality in its application. So don't worry.
