Should I Be Alarmed Of Bleeding After Abdominal Hysterectomy?

Hi, I had abdominal hyst on 12/18 - still have ovaries. As of yesterday and today I have started to bleed fresh blood, it's not as heavy as a menstrual cycle, but it seems more than just spotting. In terms of pain, I'm at a 2-3 and only taking ibuprofen. Should I be alarmed by the bleeding?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
After undergoing hysterectomy, spotting can be seen in the early postoperative period as a part of healing process.
After few months after hysterectomy, the possible causes of spotting are:
-Presence of granulation tissue at the site of healed suture line in vault.
-Vaginal infection
-Hormonal imbalance like low estrogen levels.
Low estrogen levels can lead to thinning of vaginal mucosa and that can bleed on mild friction.
So, if the spotting persists, better to consult gynecologist once and get examined.
By examination the exact cause of the problem can be identified and treatment can be given accordingly.
Take care.
