Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I broke my tib and fib when I was 10 and had it plated. I m now 29 and for the first time have been feeling some strong discomfort from the area of the plate. At it s worst, it comes as twinges that can make my whole tremble for a second or 2 - I can still always put weight on it. Should be concerned/have it looked at or put it down the cold and get over it? Thanks, Dan
It is very unusual to develop pain at the site of implant (plate) 19 years after surgery. But there is a possibility of implant breakage due to fatigue failure over a period of time which could cause discomfort and pain.
Anyway, it is necessary to get an evaluation done to know the exact cause.
An xray of the local part will show the status of the implant and the underlying bone.
If it is bothering you much, then Implant removal may be needed.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day

Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
Pain over plate area could be due to prominence of plate or screw, loosening of implant or due to muscle spasm. If it persist and hamper your daily activity, get an xray done and get it evaluated by your doctor.
Hope this helps you.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.
