Seton Inserted For Anal Fistula. Exposed Loop Of Seton Broken. How To Know Fistula Is Healed?
Hello I had a seton inserted for an anal fistula (dont know cause, only found out on other unrelated investigation). Seton inserted 2 april 2012. Today the exposed loop of the seton has broken. Do I need to worry or do anything? 2. how does a surgeon know if seton has healed fistula and whether or not to proceed to a plug ? I dont want an unnecessary operation. Thank you for your help

Thanks for contacting HCM.please contact your surgeon, he will do a proctoscopy and most likely will be able to find out whether fistula has healed or not. If necessary an MRI SCAN of perinium can be done to confirm or rule out healing. Regards
