Sciatica, Irregular Periods, Back Pain, Spotting After Falling Down. Normal?

I am 19 years old with Sciatica. I also have really bad irregular periods and I haven't had my period for about 4 months now. Today afternoon around 1pm I fell down a flight of stairs face facing upwards and later on I started spotting and now my back pain is even worse than it already was. Is that normal? Should I go to my health clinic?

Hi,
The spotting you have is due to the fall as any injury or stress can lead to breakthrough bleeding. You should see your health care provider immediately for help as your back pain needs attention. You need to contact your gynecologist for a proper appraisal of the situation and treatment. Once the back pain is attended to, you can get proper investigation and further management for the spotting. Until then, rest, observation, nutritional supplements and styptics if needed remain the main stay of the management. Hope you find this information useful. Take care.

General & Family Physician Dr. Nsah Bernard's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for posting on HCM,

In a girl of your age, having secondary amenorrhea and irregular periods, then there is bound to be an underlying cause which might be treatable. I do not know if you already had yourself checked by a gynobs for possible reasons for having irregular periods. It is possible that you might be suffering from polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, hormonal imbalance (due to a glandular disorder) and if you are already sexually active (practice unprotected sex) it would be best to rule out pregnancy.
Now given that your fall has illicited spotting and also having severe back pain, I suggest you see a doctor as soon as you can.

Hope this helps
