Sciatic Nerve Cut Off In Accident Causing Foot Drop. Will Surgery Help?
Hi doctor samuel, My sciatic nerve has been cut off causing foot drop in a car accident 3 months ago. It took quite a bit of a time for doctors to find out. Now the surgeons say my muscles lost its power and even after the surgery they wont be able to regain the power however they will be able to regain the sensation though. Please help because this means i wont be able to walk normally now ever again.
This is just to inform you that a denervated muscle substance (muscle with cut off nerve supply) will be replaced by fibrous tissue over a period of time making it non functional.
In a scenario (like your case), TENDON TRANFER operations will be of much help which aims at replacing the non functional muscle with a good functional alternative muscle, thereby regaining the lost functional in the affected joints.
I suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon having an adequate experience in tendon transfer surgeries, for further management.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
