Restless Legs, Difficulty In Sleeping After Change Of Medicine From Zoloft To Prozac. Suggestions?

My Dr. has changed me from zoloft to prozac. After finishing the zoloft I immediatly started the prozac. It has been a nightmare. I have had restless legs so bad that I cant sleep. I discontinued the prozac on my own and saw immediate improvement. Now, after 5 days the restless legs return. Should I start back on the prozac, or try and wait it out longer?

Hi,

All SSRIs including Zoloft and Prozac can cause restless legs syndrome. But since Prozac brought it on while Zoloft didn't, in my opinion, rather than restarting Prozac, you should ask your doctor if you can be continued on Zoloft. If that is not possible, then some other antidepressant may be tried. Bupropion (Wellbutrin) and trazodone (Desyrel) are not usually associated with restless legs syndrome. Restarting Prozac may worsen your condition.

Hope this helps you. Best wishes.
