Prone To Sebaceous Cysts, Has Superficial Knot In Skull, Painful. On Doxycycline. Is It Infected? Needs IV Antibiotics?

My husband has been prone to having sebaceous cysts in the past. He is a mechanic and ends up with sweat , grease and oils on his hands every day. Now he started out with a fluctuating type knot at the base of his skull on the right side and is superficial. He went to the VA doctor in the ER who gave him doxycycline, lodine, and Bactrim. This his the 2nd day of antibiotics. It has grown more in the last two days since beginning the antibiotics. Both are BID. It is very painful and hurts when he turns his head. The doctor in the ER said it was an infected cyst. What should I do to help him ( I am a nurse) it seems to be getting worse, but the antibiotics haven't really begun or had the chance to work yet. He is miserable. Another cyst popped up this evening on the right upper posterior scalp area. Would he need IV antibiotics, or lancing? Just getting concerned. Thanks

Hi,
It seems that your husband is having infected Sebaceous cyst and require one antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicines courses.
Start antibiotic and after 2-3 days of medicine he will feel better.
If recurring infection in cyst is there, go for excision of cyst with sac.
Ok and take care.
