Pregnancy Blood Test Showing High TSH Levels. Worried About The Health Of The Baby

Hi,

My wife is in 6'th week of pregnancy.
As per the doctor recommendation we did multiple blood tests. Of which the "TSH (ultrasensitive),serum by CMIA" is on higher side with value 14.62.
Also the "Microsomal (TPO) Antibody Titre, serum by CMIA" is shown as "Positive (>1000)".

I am worried if these reading pose some major threat. I would be thankful if someone provide detail for the impact of it over baby , mother and it's remedies.

I am planning to visit my doctor today but thought of checking with the community here too.

Regards
Rohit

Hello
welcome to health care magic
Thanks for your query
Normal TSH value ranges from 0.5-5
You have > 1000 antibodies that means you have hashimotos disease..
Normally in pregnancy there will be more need of thyroid hormones..
Your wife should take thyroxine medications to meet the requirements..
And the presence of antibodies,,they cross the placenta and may cause harm to your baby.it may lead to persistent low IQ in your baby if not corrected in time..
Consult general physician or surgeon and take further suggestions
Hope you understand my suggestion
thank you

General & Family Physician Dr. Kidev Swamynathan's  Response
Hi,
sorry to hear your problem,
thyroid hormones are very important for proper development of gonads. I will strongly suggest that you go for a gynecological check up and also consult an endocrinologist. Before that try to test your T3 and T4 levels. I'll also suggest that you do a ultrasound screening to rule out any other defects.

thank you.
