Please Suggest A Cure For Chronic Diarrhea

I have had chronic diarrhea for many years. in the last year to 2 years it has gotten progressively worse and now I m having episodes or attacks on an almost daily basis. When I get sick, I know it is going to be bad when I get a hot flash or wave of heat that precedes me getting very ill, to the point of being violently ill. I never throw up. But I have intense stomach pain and cramping. I have done stool tests and cultures, all negative. I have done a 24 hour urine test (no result yet). 2 days ago I had an emergency colonoscopy with it being normal. Today they did a CT scan and said I have thickening of the illium. Any ideas? My gi Doc thinks it s carcinoid syndrome, but no tumors or growths are anywhere. I just don t want to be sick anymore. It s affecting my life in a very negative way. I m open to suggestion at this point. Thank you! Tiffany

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of chronic diarrhea for the last 2 years, starts as hot flash or wave of heat, gets violently ill, no vomiting, intense pain and cramping, tests normal, colonoscopy normal, CT scan shows thickening of ileum, your Doctor thinks of Carcinoid syndrome...
Thickening of the ileum along with the symptoms indicate that you may have Tuberculosis or Crohn's syndrome. You need a repeat colonoscopy to reach the terminal ileum to get the biopsy to get a confirmed diagnosis and further management as needed.
Another way is Diagnostic laparoscopy and get the tissue specimen.
You can also have blood tests related to these diseases.
5-Hydroxyindoleacetic Acid (5-HIAA) is confirmatory of a Carcinoid syndrome, please ask for this test too.
