Plates Installed In Ankle And Knee, Impaired Foot. Done Physiotherapy. Will I Feel Better?

Hello dear doctors. Actually I had a surgery in which some plates were installed in my ankle and under knee 2 years ago. Last year I removed the plates, now after 2 years I noticed my impared leg lap is thinner than the other. Im 32 years old. I'd be grateful if u let me know that if any physiotherapy can help my impaired foot lap become tge same size.

Hi Zahra and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this discrepancy in the size of your laps following this accident and surgical repair. The truth is that this is expected and the findings not surprising. Our muscles development is closely linked to how we use them. With the accident, you resorted to using the other leg(normal) more often which resulted in the muscles developing more. At the same time, you used the affected limb less often that result in muscle atrophy. This explains the difference in the size of your laps.

As the healing gets better and you use this leg more often than before, it will develop even more. But, it would be very difficult to talk of both laps getting the same size again. There will be a great decrease in the difference that may need a close look to identify but rarely would they be of same size again.

I hope this addresses your query fully. I truly understand the distress this has caused you but remember others never got the chance to save their legs after accidents, so it is at least a comforting aspect for you. Feel free to follow up with me if more answers are needed.
