Pins And Needles Pain On The Body. Difficulty In Sleeping. What Can Be Done?

What might be the cause of the pins and needles all over my body, only when I lay down? This will go on for 4-5 hours when I try to lay down. It does not ever happen when I am standing. It is keeping me from getting any sleep. It is not the bed - it happens where ever I try to lay down. It is not an itch , it is more like nerves popping and tingling . YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Thank you for your question.
Pins and needles are most caused by nerve conditions. Because this only occurs when you lie down, it has to mean that the change in posture is irritating your nervous system, most frequently the nerve roots from your spine. There is also a nervous condition called restless legs syndrome, which tends to occur at night when lying down. Treatment consists of taking a nerve stabilizing drug, an example of one would be Lyrica. Please consult a doctor, as poor sleep can be very detrimental to your general health. Do not hesitate to ask for any further information .
