Pain In Rectal Area, Prostate Seemed Firmer On One Side. Advised Ultrasound. Any Ideas?

I have had pain in the rectal area for aprox 2 weeks,went to uruologist today, he performed DRE,and said prostate was normal size, normal to feel on left side,firm to a little firmer on the right side,urine test showed no blood or infection,took psa,and cvc,results to be in tomorrow,wants to do an ultrasound in 2 weeks. he told me that there could be other things causing the firmness.

By P/R examination, any gross abnormality in prostate can be detected like increase in size, or change in constancy. Through evaluation of prostate is done by ultrasound, by which we can confirm the findings of P/R examination or rule out any abnormality which is detected on clinical examination. Ultra sound help us to determine size of prostate, weight of prostate, which lobe of prostrate is more enlarged and any abnormal nodule in prostate. As in your case slight firmness in right side could be a nodule.PSA level along with ultra sound will be helpful in establishing the etiology of this firmness on right side.
